Minutes

Attending: Peter Sielman, Pam Munro, Russ Gomes, Cathy Frank.
Robin Purcell out of town. Sue McKinlay’s last meeting as a member was in January 2012. Tim Devlin did not respond to e-mails.

Chair Peter Sielman called the meeting to order at 7:30pm.

Approval of Minutes
A motion was made by Pam Munro, seconded by Russ Gomes, to approve the minutes of 12 January 2012. Cathy stated that she will change location of October meeting from OL Town Hall to LOL High School on future agendas, and will notify all Town Clerks.
Motion passed.

Comcast Report
Submitted via e-mail by John Bairos and attached.

~Treasurer’s Report
Robin Purcell provided copies of the current Treasurer’s Report for the meeting (attached). A motion was made by Russ, seconded by Pam, to accept the Treasurer’s Report as submitted. Motion passed.

Statewide Video Council
Peter reported that PURA  - Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (formerly DPUC) intends to look into community access programming and operations compliance from all providers on a regular basis.~


Old Business
  • Public Access Promotion
Pam has drafted a bookmark that Cathy/Pam will e-mail to all members for feedback.
  • Update on program access at Hale-Ray High School, East Haddam
Peter will contact the Hale-Ray principal for confirmation that the issue has been resolved.

New Business
  • 2012 Scholarship applications
All members were e-mailed the applications submitted by 2 applicants, _______________________________ Council members agreed that both applicants were qualified and deserving of scholarship assistance.  After reviewing Council finances, members also agreed that the Council is able to award more than the previously agreed amount of $2,000. A motion was made by Peter, seconded by Russ, to award $2,000 to each of the two applicants. Cathy will communicate with the High School. The applicants will be presented with award letters in early June at Senior Night.

Members agreed that letters will be sent from the Council to Guidance departments, technology education departments, and others at the local high schools to remind them of scholarship availability. In addition to press releases sent in June about the scholarships, Cathy will send releases again in February to remind students & parents of the scholarship opportunity.

A motion was made by Russ to adjourn at 8:04pm.~~
